Oral prophylaxis

In a healthy mouth, teeth are scaled to remove plaque and stain above the gum line, polished and flossed. Patients are asked to return every 6 months to maintain gum health. Our registered dental hygienists assist our patients in gum disease prevention by demonstrating oral hygiene techniques and recommending over the counter products to boost your home care routine.

 

Scaling and root planing

Patients with gum disease and periodontal pocketing require a deeper cleaning to remove calculus and plaque below the gum line in order to restore gum health. This is most often performed with local anesthetic. Patients treated with scaling and root planing are monitored at 3-4 month intervals to evaluate the response to the treatment and maintain progress in periodontal disease control.
